Phareodus
The Phareodus is a fairly primitive bony fish that is rarely found in North America outside the Green River Formation. The Phareodus has living relatives in tropical waters of South America, Africa and Asia. One of these relatives, the Arawana, is often sold for aquariums.

This piece has been repaired. There is a saw cut from the
back side that crosses the tail.
The specimen has been glued to particle board for stability.

We find two species, Phareodus testis and Phareodus encaustus. The testis grew up to 16 inches long and is rounded in shape. The Phareodus encaustus can be 30 inches in length.
The smallest Phareodus are priced at $125. Large specimens are $2500.
