The Notogoneus is a slender bodied bottom feeding fish that is found only in the 18 inch layer.

The Notogoneus was a nocturnal fish that fed on crustaceans. Modern day relatives burrow in sand and mud during the day. The Notogoneus does not have big bones in the head and typically the head looks a bit crushed. They are almost all longer than 10 inches ; a large one is 26 inches long.
